Isle of Man Transport and Manx National Heritage Explorer Breaks

Manx National Transport and Heritage Explorer Breaks are a great way to package up your holiday or short break in the Isle of Man. It means you can consolidate all your travel, accommodation and sightseeing activities in one easily affordable bundle.

And what a rich heritage there is to explore! The Isle of Man provides a journey of discovery into a fascinating past - which is why these special packages have been especially designed so that you can trace the Island’s colourful history at leisure and without feeling rushed.

An Explorer Pass will give you unlimited access to ALL Manx National Heritage sites and travel on the Island’s bus network, Steam Railway, the Electric & Snaefell Mountain Railway and the iconic horse drawn trams.

A great place to start your trip is the Manx Museum in Douglas, brimming with artefacts and treasures unique to the Isle of Man and where the Island’s 10,000 year history is presented through film, galleries and interactive displays.

On the Island’s west coast, Peel Castle is a majestic fortress overlooking Peel Marina and once home to the 11th century Viking King of Mann. Whilst in Peel, visit the House of Manannan for a glimpse through the Island's Celtic, Viking and Maritime past.

Other highly recommended sites include the 900 year old monastery, Rushen Abbey in Ballasalla. An Interpretation Centre tells its story from 1134 to the present day.

Dominating the centre of Castletown, the ancient capital of Mann, explore the impressive fortress, Castle Rushen.  Originally built for a Norse king in around 1200, the castle has since been home to the Kings and Lords of Mann, as well as being a mint and even a prison!

Castletown also features the Nautical Museum which, for more than 200 years, housed the Peggy, the earliest example of a British schooner, and the only surviving shallop of her kind.

Travel to Ramsey in the north of the Island and you’ll discover The Grove Museum of Victorian Life which tells the story of the Gibb family and their Victorian summer retreat, which became their permanent residence.

There really is so much to see and all heritage sites are open from March to November.

Laxey Wheel

From Neolithic settlements and Viking strongholds, to medieval castles and Victorian innovations, such as the world-famous Laxey Wheel, our all-inclusive and interactive heritage packages will help you maximise your Island stay.

Cregneash

Located in the south of the Island, near the Calf of Man, a must-see is Cregneash, a realistically preserved settlement of the traditional Manx crafting way of life and one of the last strongholds of the Manx language and customs.
