2017 Date to be confirmed

The annual Isle of Man Film Festival, now in its fifth year, promotes and celebrates both home grown and international film at locations around the Island.

Mindful of last year’s great schedule of competitions, screenings, film discussion nights, panel sessions, special industry guests and workshops, the IOMFF 2016 team plans to pull out “all the stops” to make this year’s event even better!

The Festival officially kicks off on Thursday September 8th, with drinks from 2-5pm in The Claremont Hotel Lobby on Douglas Promenade, where visiting filmmakers get to meet their hosts. This is followed by the Isle-o-Vision Film Contest, an all-island movie pub-style quiz with prizes – staged at venues north, south, east and west across the Island; the Alpine in Douglas, The Trafalgar in Ramsey, The Albert in Port St Mary and The Creek in Peel.

On the Friday, back at The Claremont, there’s PitchFest, where 12-15 shortlisted filmmaking teams pitch for the opportunity to win match-funding of up to £7,500 from the IOM Government.

A movie buff’s delight

Later that day, there’s an outdoor movie screening of the classic 90’s movie, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves at Castle Rushen in Castletown.

Saturday consists of a filmmaking workshop at The Claremont Hotel as well as a movie tour round the Island for visiting and local filmmakers. Castle Rushen also hosts an outdoor movie matinee screening of the fantastic 80’s family fantasy adventure, Labyrinth.  Later that evening at The Gaiety, BBC Film critic Mark Kermode, interviews a special guest during an “Evening with …”  following the same format as last year’s memorable Sir John Hurt night:  a special pre-drinks reception, an interview with the special guest and then a screening of one of their films.

Meanwhile, on the final Sunday, there’ll be a Short Film Competition Finalist Screening at the Broadway Cinema at the Villa Marina, culminating in the Film Competition Awards Night and a viewing of the “Best of…” as well as the leading home-grown short.
