5 great walks which highlight the most spectacular sections of this panoramic trail.
7 Nights, 5 Walk Days,
1 Rest day
Overview
The Raad ny Foillan (which means the Way of the Gull in Manx Gaelic) is the iconic 100-mile coastal footpath that circumvents the Isle of Man.
From it, we have selected 5 great walks which highlight the most spectacular sections of this panoramic trail. It was tough to keep it down to only five! The routes mostly stick close to the coastline, but you’ll also encounter an agreeable mix of Manx terrain, when the path occasionally diverts back inland. But whether you are walking on shingle beaches, on the cliffs high above the sea or through the foothills of our sweeping fells, we can guarantee some unforgettable hiking.
Itinerary
Along the way, we will visit the best the Island has to offer - from castles to unexpected encounters with local wildlife, secret caves and even the best ice cream stop offs!
1. The ‘famous’ southern section, featured on numerous TV and radio programmes and magazine articles – 9 miles/14.5km.
2. The rugged cliffs and moorland of the south west – 7 miles/11.5km
3. The northern tip heading south to the historic 1000-year-old Maughold church – 10 miles/16km
4. The beautiful western coastal section to explore the Sunset City of Peel – 9 miles/14.5km.
5. The Langness Peninsula with its marine wildlife and bird life and the volcanic Scarlett Point – 7 miles/11.5km.
Essential Information
To provide plenty of flexibility within the programme, we won’t necessarily organise the walks in the order above – but we will cover them all. In between, we have scheduled one rest day, to enable you to explore the Island at your leisure, or to arrange other activities during your stay.
Grading
The walking terrain varies from moorland to beach sections, which we would class as MODERATE. As these are guided walks, our priority is to accommodate and support all participants every step of the way. Nevertheless, if you would like to participate, you should be reasonably confident of your fitness and be comfortable walking distances of 9 or 10 miles each day. Please be advised, that some sections have occasional steep slopes and cliff tops.
