7 Nights, 5½ Days Walking

Overview

How many people can say that they’ve visited every lighthouse on the Isle of Man. Would you even know how many lighthouses there are on the Island?

The actual answer is 23 no less – if you include all the lighthouses, stone pier lighthouses, foghorns and beacons.

And our aptly named Lighthouse Walking Challenge gives you the opportunity to see the lot!

Covering a total distance of 87 miles, we have divided this adventure into bite size chunks, spread over five and half days of fully guided walking, amounting to about 16 miles a day. The daily itinerary will be flexible, to ensure we work in cooperation with the local coastguards.

Itinerary

Whichever routes we take, you’ll have the opportunity to touch every lighthouse and beacon spread across the Isle of Man – bar the stone lighthouse in Douglas harbour.

  • Superb mixture of coastal scenery, rugged hill and moorland walking.
  • Trip by boat to the Calf of Man to explore this unique environment, with its 3 Victorian lighthouses.
  • Ultimate challenge with 5 strenuous days walking.
  • Total of 23 Lighthouses comprising 7 big lighthouses, 11 stone pier lighthouses, 2 beach lighthouses and one foghorn
  • Total distance of 87 miles / 140 km averaging 16 miles / 25 km per day.

How about turning your Lighthouse Challenge into a fundraising event?

Because this is such a unique walking event – let’s face it, how often do you get to travel to a mystical Island and visit so many iconic structures – you may want to build your visit around some fundraising activity. Get sponsored for walking 87 miles to visit 23 lighthouses – it has a ring (or foghorn!) about it!  Just make sure you bring a camera to prove you made it! Our Lighthouse Walking Challenge provides the perfect opportunity to raise money for a good cause.

Grading

These lighthouse walks are classed as STRENUOUS. It’s best if you have had previous country walking experience and you must be confident of your physical fitness and stamina. The trip includes multiple days of demanding physical walking, including steep climbs and rough terrain. The itinerary requires walking through all weather conditions, in occasionally remote locations. Walkers should be prepared for between 7 and 9 hours of walking per day, potentially in all weather conditions. The average daily ascent is between 400-1200m.
